Qualified Illinois Domestic Relations Orders
General Overview
The following information is helpful if your retirement benefits are being considered for possible division in divorce proceedings. The SURS Member Services Division handles inquiries and benefit information requests for divorce purposes. A Qualified Illinois Domestic Relations Order (QILDRO) is an Illinois court order that transfers part or all of a member´s retirement benefits to an alternate payee. The SURS Legal Department processes QILDROs entered against SURS members.
The New QILDRO Rules
New QILDRO rules effective July 1, 2009 are published in Volume 33, Issue 29 of the Illinois Register dated July 17, 2009 (page 10757). The information contained in the SURS QILDRO Brochure (accessible by clicking on the links toward the bottom of this page) may be affected by the new rules. Until the QILDRO Brochure has been reviewed and updated as necessary, please consult the new rules as well.
