Gov. Pritzker has reappointed John Lyons to the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Board of Trustees. He will serve a six-year term.
Lyons has served as an appointed trustee since 2019 and has been chair since 2023. He previously was elected to serve as board treasurer by his fellow trustees. He currently chairs the board’s Executive Committee as well as serving on the Board Governance, Investment, Diversity, and Legal & Legislative Committees.
Lyons is a partner at the law firm DLA Piper LLP (US).
“I am pleased that Gov. Pritzker has reappointed Chairperson John Lyons to the board to continue serving as our chair,” said SURS Executive Director Suzanne Mayer. “Trustee Lyons understands the importance of our mission to deliver promised benefits to our members and he effectively brings the board together on important issues and policies that support that mission.”
Lyons’ appointment must be confirmed by the Illinois Senate.
The SURS Board of Trustees consists of 11 trustees including four elected active members, two elected annuitants, and five members appointed by the governor, of which one is the appointed chair of the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
