The meeting of the of the Audit & Risk Committee of the Board of Trustees of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) convened on Thursday, February 29, 2023, at 3:50 p.m.
Upon motion by Trustee Rock, seconded by Trustee Bodnaruk, and following a roll call vote, the SURS Audit & Risk Committee went into closed session pursuant to §2(c)(8) & §2(c)(29) of the Open Meetings Act.
The following trustees were present: Dr. Andriy Bodnaruk, Dr. Fred Giertz, chair; Mr. Scott Hendrie; Dr. Steven Rock; Mr. Pranav Kothari; Mr. John Lyons; Mr. Collin Van Meter; Mr. Antonio Vasquez; and Mr. Mitch Vogel.
Others present: Ms. Suzanne Mayer, Executive Director; Ms. Bianca Green, General Counsel; Ms. Jackie Hohn, Chief Internal Auditor; Mr. Jefferey Saiger, Chief Technology Officer; Ms. Tara Myers, Chief Financial Officer; Ms. Nichole Hemming, Chief Human Resources Officer; Ms. Jennifer Bartell, Director of Benefits Processing; Ms. Kelly Carson, Executive Assistant; Mr. Michael Calabrese of Foley.
The SURS Audit & Risk Committee went into closed session at 4:00 p.m.
Information Systems Security Update
Mr. Jefferey Saiger shared updates regarding the SURS Information Security Program. He discussed the progress the IT team is making on the planned road map initiatives for the information security program. Mr. Saiger mentioned that SURS staff has been doing a great job identifying bad email correspondence and he explained how SURS is recognizing these individuals.
Fraud Report
Ms. Bianca Green discussed the fraud report with the trustees and provided them with information relating to a recent fraud incident. She reminded the committee members of the required reporting process. Trustees asked if there are other options for reporting these types of matters in the future and a discussion followed.

The open meeting resumed at 4:20 p.m.
