SURS has been named a 2025 NAGDCA Leadership Recognition Award recipient. This award recognizes the brightest ideas and most innovative solutions from across the public sector defined contribution industry.

The State Universities Retirement System (SURS) has received multiple awards from the National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators (NAGDCA) for its innovative work in retirement plan design and administration. This is the third time since 2021 that SURS has won this award.

SURS was selected for this award for implementing automatic contribution escalation in the SURS Deferred Compensation Plan (DCP). Auto-escalation in the DCP allows for a participant’s pre-tax contribution rate to automatically increase by 1 percent each year up to a pre-determined cap.  Members not wishing to participate in this feature have the ability to opt out at any time.

“The SURS DCP was designed to help members generate additional income for retirement,” said SURS Executive Director Suzanne Mayer. “By participating in the DCP in addition to one of SURS core retirement plans, our members are better positioned to meet their retirement income needs. By automatically increasing contributions each year, they will save more over time, ultimately leading to a larger benefit and a more secure financial future.”

Earlier this summer, SURS was named as the 2025 PLANSPONSOR Plan Sponsor of the Year winner in the “Total Retirement Offering” category.

SURS will be recognized at NAGDCA’s annual conference in September.
