At the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Board of Trustees meetings on September 10 and 11, SURS announced an upcoming Board of Trustees election that will occur in Spring of 2027. Two active members seats and one annuitant member seat will be available. The election will be conducted by the independent firm, YesElections. SURS encourages all eligible members to consider running for a seat on the board. The SURS board meets quarterly, with additional committee meetings throughout the year. Trustees are required to complete at least eight hours of annual training. Members of SURS who are interested in running for the SURS’ Board may email kcarson@surs.org for an election packet beginning October1. All seats are for 6-year terms.
The Board also took the following Investment actions:
- Staff and CAPTRUST gave a presentation on the evaluation of the core options for SURS Retirement Savings Plan (RSP) and Deferred Compensation Plan (DCP). The approved recommendation was to refresh the lineup by simplifying the line up in areas with limited utilization and adding options in the equity asset classes. These changes will be communicated to members in detail closer to implementation. The current target for implementing the changes is late March 2027.
There were no changes made to the plans’ default option, the SURS Lifetime Income Strategy.
- The board voted to leave the exit queue for JP Morgan, opting to stay in the fund. This fund currently has approximately $180M.
The next meeting of the SURS Board of Trustees will be October 22, 2026.
