Champaign, IL — Martin Noven, executive director of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS), resigned his position on Feb. 18 to focus his attention on a new career opportunity.
SURS Board of Trustees thanked Noven for his accomplishments over the past four years.
Noven became SURS executive director on Nov. 2, 2016, succeeding W. Bryan Lewis and following a career as senior director for government markets at TIAA (Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America).
SURS Chief Benefits Officer Suzanne Mayer will serve as interim executive director until Noven’s replacement is found. Mayer has been with the System since 2002 and served as a retirement counselor, counseling manager and director of outreach before becoming the chief benefits officer in 2018. She currently oversees the Call Center, Retirement Counselors, Employer Services, Claims Processing, Benefits Support Services, Communications and the Retirement Savings Plan Team.
The SURS Board of Trustees will engage in a process to select a new executive director in the coming weeks.
