Operate as a resource to SURS and the SURS finance department. The responsibilities involve preparing, coordinating, and distributing timely and accurate financial, statistical, tax, or qualitative information as needed to SURS employees, external auditors, members, vendors, other designated agencies of the State of Illinois or the U.S. Government, or other persons to ensure SURS remain compliant with relevant laws and regulations. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

The Associate Investment Officer (AIO) works with other Investment staff in managing SURS defined benefit and defined contribution plans. This role will focus on the risk management effort and SURS defined contribution plans. The AIO will collaborate with the Senior Investment Officer (SIO) to create and maintain a robust risk management program and insightful risk and performance reporting.

The Investment Analyst assists other Investment staff in the selection, evaluation and ongoing monitoring of external public markets investment funds. Developing the knowledge and skill necessary for investment decision making and manager selection. This position reports to the Senior Investment Officer – Public Markets (Equity and Fixed Income).

The Investment Analyst Intern assists other Investment staff in managing SURS defined benefit and defined contribution plans. Developing a broad-based understanding of investment principles and portfolio management.

State Universities Retirement System (SURS) is seeking to hire a 1L or 2L Law student to work as a summer law clerk in support of the SURS Legal Department. This position requires in-person work that will be based in the Champaign, IL SURS office. Some hybrid days may be negotiable. 

SURS’ Member Service roles rely heavily on strong customer service, communications, critical thinking, and mathematical skills. Certain departments are more customer service-focused while others focus more on claims processing and analysis. Openings are available in multiple departments.

The Senior Investment Analyst assists other Investment staff in managing SURS defined benefit and defined contribution plans. This role will initially focus on the risk management and performance effort. The Senior Analyst will be responsible for data integrity of our performance and risk analytics tool and the creation and evaluation of risk reports.
