The meeting of the of the Board of Trustees of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) convened on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
Upon motion by Trustee Van Meter, seconded by Trustee Vasquez, and following a roll call vote, the SURS Board of Trustees went into closed session pursuant to §2(c)(11) and §2(c)(1) of the Open Meetings Act.
The following trustees were present: Mr. Andriy Bodnaruk, Mr. Richard Figueroa, Ms. Jamie-Clare Flaherty (via zoom), Dr. Fred Giertz, Mr. Scott Hendrie, Mr. John Lyons, Mr. Pranav Kothari, Dr. Steven Rock, Mr. Antonio Vasquez, Mr. Collin Van Meter, and Mr. Mitch Vogel.
Others present: Ms. Suzanne Mayer, Executive Director; Mr. Douglas Wesley, Chief Investment Officer (CIO); Mr. Michael Schlachter, CIO Designee; Ms. Tara Myers, Chief Financial Officer; Ms. Bianca Green, General Counsel; Ms. Nichole Hemming, Chief Human Resources Officer; Ms. Jackie Hohn, Chief Internal Auditor; Mr. Jefferey Saiger, Chief Technology Officer; Ms. Kristen Houch, Director of Legislative and Stakeholder Relations; Ms. Kelly Carson, Ms. Chelsea McCarty, and Annette Ackerman, Executive Assistants; and Mr. Michael Calabrese of Foley.
The SURS Board of Trustees went into closed session at 11:35 a.m.
Personnel Matters
Mr. Michael Schlachter updated the board regarding his assessment of next steps needed for the investment team structure and specific personnel changes on the horizon and he discussed his plans for filling open positions.
General Counsel’s Litigation Report
Ms. Bianca Green presented the General Counsel’s Litigation Report and updated the Board on pending litigation matters.
