Effective September 30, 2016, the State Universities Retirement System’s (SURS) assistance with the enrollment of all member, retiree and survivor health insurance coverage will change.

|Jun-09-16||SURS Discontinuing Paper Check Stubs||
SURS July 2016 benefit payment notifications (check stubs) will be mailed at the end of June. It will be the final time most members will receive a paper check stub. Beginning in July, all members who have a valid email address on file with SURS and who receive payment through direct deposit will receive an electronic notification when a payment has been issued. The notice will direct members to log in to their secure Member Website to view their payment details.

On May 3, SURS was presented with a legislative resolution and certificates of recognition from the Illinois House and Senate commemorating the System's 75th anniversary.
|Apr-29-16||Benefit Choice Enrollment Period Begins May 1||
The Fiscal Year 2017 Benefit Choice Period is May 1 through May 31, 2016, for SURS active members as well as annuitants and survivors not enrolled in the Medicare Advantage 'TRAIL' Program. This is the only time of the year, other than when you experience a "qualifying change in status," that you may change your coverage.

SURS has been made aware of a recently published article reporting that SURS made a campaign contribution to a candidate for state representative. The article is inaccurate. SURS does not make political contributions.
Statements referencing the State Universities Retirement System contained in an article in the East Central Reporter for the week of March 6-12, 2016, are inaccurate and misleading. The State Universities Retirement System has never “given” to Mr. Jim Acklin or his campaign.
|Feb-26-16||SURS Chairperson Appointed||
On February 26, 2016, Gov. Bruce Rauner announced the appointment of Tom Cross to head the Illinois Board of Higher Education. According to the Illinois Pension Code, Cross will also serve as chairperson of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Board of Trustees.
|Feb-11-16||SURS Chairperson to Step Down||
Lindsay Anderson, current chairperson of the State Universities Retirement System’s (SURS) Board of Trustees, will step down effective Feb. 19, 2016, to accept a position with the University of Illinois.
Anderson has led the SURS board as well as the Illinois Board of Higher Education since being appointed by then-Governor Pat Quinn on June 3, 2013. She also chairs the SURS Board Governance, Legal and Legislative and Executive Committees.
There are no seminars scheduled at this time. Please check back at a later date for future events.
SURS is offering a spring post-retirement seminar for Traditional and Portable Plan annuitants. This seminar will provide valuable information on survivor assistance, benefit statements, navigating the member website, community and more. The University of Illinois Extension will also be on site presenting an enjoyable and informative session on memory and aging.

SURS has posted its 2015 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. The 100-page report outlines the System’s financial statements, investment results, funding analyses, and benefit payments.
